About Personal Rentals
We are currently offering personal rentals in select markets and will continue to expand. Monthly personal rentals allow riders in select cities to rent a personal vehicle. We deliver everything you need to get started, including the vehicle, a power charger, and a Bluetooth lock. Control your vehicle with the app, and when you’re ready to return it, we’ll come to pick it up. Access to affordable, reliable transportation has never been so easy.
Where can I get a Personal Rental?
We are currently in offering personal rentals in San Francisco, Miami and Washington D.C. However, we’re at full capacity in San Francisco. If we don’t operate in your city yet, you can join the waitlist at https://rent.bird.co/.
How do I rent a vehicle?
Signing up for a personal rental is easy. If you are 18 or older, you can sign up by downloading the app, creating an account and selecting Personal Rental from the menu in the app. If you do not see Personal Rental in your app menu, it means we are at full capacity or do not yet offer the program in your city.
How much does it cost?
Pricing varies by city. Go to Personal Rental from the menu in the app to see current pricing.
What’s included in the rental?
You will receive a vehicle, a charger with return packaging, and a Bluetooth cable lock. Hang on to the charger, lock, and package as you’ll return them later.
By renting with us, you will also have access to our best-in-class maintenance program and customer care service.
Where is the vehicle delivered?
We will deliver to the address you specify (home, work, you choose), so long as it is within our delivery zone. You do not need to be present for us to deliver the vehicle. It will arrive fully charged and locked in the location you request. We’ll need a solid object like a bike rack to secure the lock to. Please specify the location to lock the vehicle in the delivery notes.
When is the vehicle delivered?
When placing an order for a monthly personal rental, you can select a day for delivery from the list provided during sign up. We will notify you when the vehicle is delivered so you can go pick up your new ride!
Is there an age restriction to rent a vehicle?
You must be 18 years old or older to rent or ride.
Can I rent more than one?
Only one vehicle may be rented per account.
What if the vehicle gets damaged?
If your vehicle is damaged or malfunctions, report it to us through the app. We will evaluate and potentially repair or swap out the vehicle for a new one at no cost. We reserve the right to charge you for any damage you cause to the vehicle, as well as any vandalism, vehicle abuse, or other total loss of the vehicle. We will not swap/repair for damage that is only cosmetic.

What happens if my vehicle is lost or stolen?
In addition to filing a police report, contact us as soon as possible at 1-866-205-2442. Loss of the vehicle will be the responsibility of the renter. You may be charged up to $500. You can track the location of your vehicle through the app.
What type of vehicle will I get?
You will receive a Bird e-scooter, similar to those that comprise our worldwide shared fleet. We leverage a number of different models, depending on the market and availability. Here is a little bit more about what you can expect:

Will others be able to access/ride my vehicle or see it on the app?
No, only the person associated with the personal rental account will be able to activate and start rides on their personal vehicle and view it in their app during the rental period. Other riders will not be able to unlock your vehicle, and it will not appear on their rider map within the app.
How are you able to offer vehicles in a city where you do not have a permit to operate?
Current permits limit scooter-share rentals on the public rights of way. With monthly personal rentals, the vehicle you rent is personal to you and cannot be shared with another person. With your personal vehicle rental, you’re able to ride wherever personal micromobility vehicles are permitted by local law.
Is personal rentals a workaround for city regulations?
Monthly personal rentals help meet the daily commuter transportation needs of everyone in the community, and this affordable and reliable option helps us meet those needs. As long as individuals are permitted to own and ride their own vehicles in a city, they should also be permitted to rent and ride their own vehicle. Monthly personal rentals allow you to have the flexibility of having a scooter anytime you want to avoid traffic, at a fraction of the cost and no commitment.
Does the monthly fee include tax?
Tax varies by city. When you sign up for personal rental, if tax is included it will show as a line item in the purchase process.
Personal Rental Account
How long is the rental period?
The rental period is one month. Your subscription will renew automatically on the same day of the following month until you cancel. You must cancel 24 hours in advance of your subscription renewal to avoid being charged for the following month. Please know that if you cancel your rental during the month, you'll still be responsible for paying the full rental fee for that month.
How do I return my vehicle at the end of the rental period?
Please contact Support to cancel your rental before your rental period renews. We will provide instructions for how to return the vehicle at that time. Don’t worry, it’ll be as easy as when you received your rental initially.
How do I cancel my rental?
Cancel through the app on the Personal Rental screen or contact support at 1-866-205-2442.
What happens if I cancel my rental?
When you cancel, we will arrange for pick up of the vehicle. If you have questions about your rental ending, message us through the app or call 1-866-205-2442. Please know that if you cancel your rental at any time during the month, you'll still be responsible for paying the full rental fee for that month.
